Esther Fago
Hi, nice to meet you, I’m Esther. I was born in Sarzana on October 1, 1996, and I’m a Libra. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve gotten very close to the world of cartomancy and I read tarot cards, so... I’m a very instinctive, intuitive, and very, very deep person.
The way I am is the same in my artistic field. I draw, design, photograph, and create mostly by instinct, and I don’t have a specific style, but it’s my way of being and expressing myself. I studied at the Art High School both in Massa and Carrara, then went on to the Fine Arts Academy in Carrara in the graphic design course. Over the years, I’ve gotten very close to vector drawing and I tend to combine hand-drawn art with vector graphics to create spectacular content! Ultimately, I confirmed my identity as a Graphic Designer, stepping a bit away from Fine Art Graphics.
I hope, in time, to establish myself as a Graphic Designer and in my other specialties within the art world.
For Carrara Studi Aperti, I chose to exhibit my master’s thesis project on the "Cretto di Burri," Italy’s most important and monumental Land Art work, created by Alberto Burri between 1984 and 1989, where Gibellina Vecchia once stood—razed to the ground by a terrible earthquake on the night of January 14-15, 1968, sowing destruction and death.
It covers an area of about 80,000 square meters. Burri wanted to make the work eternal, so as not to forget what happened, using rubble and white cement, reproducing the streets within.
I went there in person to better understand the concept of the "sublime" linked to the Cretto and... you can also feel the sense of unease, of death that was present in it, beyond the magnificent sublime feeling from the landscape amidst the surrounding hills.
I chose six photos where I try to best represent the Cretto di Gibellina in 360°, making my trip to Sicily, to Gibellina, a blend of travel pleasure and study, very personal—diving deep inside to understand everything and to be able to exhibit it well also through the photos.
Gibellina will be the Contemporary Art City in 2026, giving me a chance to get known in the art field and to share the history of Gibellina, which truly deserves it. I recommend visiting the site to be struck by the immensity it emanates.
My first steps in art started with a simple pencil in my hand since I was little, and I already had clear ideas. Growing up, I matured more and more in the artistic field, eventually realizing that the more I progressed, the more I found myself in the vector world rather than hand drawing. So, to not lose my touch, I started combining my drawings with design, giving it a unique personal imprint and style.
When I draw, when I create something, I throw myself into it and seek perfection in every drawing and work I make. Sometimes this perfection causes me delays because I demand the best, the beautiful, the immediately perfect. As I said, I work mostly by instinct in my art, so I don’t have a very specific research because I am open to every form of art to keep growing more and more.
In these two photos, a clear transition is shown from my past in engraving to Graphic Design, where I actually don’t have a studio, because my studio is outdoors, anywhere.
There isn’t a trip I take without my faithful computer to get to work or to edit the photos I take.
